APPLICATION NAME: Amarok
INSTALL:
sudo apt-get install amarok
sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras


GENERAL NOTES:
Nice music player with lots of options: displays lyrics of current song, lots of radio stations to listen to. Check the "Tools->Script Manager" for lyrics and more tuning.

ALTERNATIVES: Exaile, Rhytmbox



APPLICATION NAME: VLC
INSTALL:
sudo apt-get install vlc

GENERAL NOTES:
Great video player. Never used another one since I installed it.

ALTERNATIVES: MPlayer



APPLICATION NAME: ktorrent
INSTALL:
sudo apt-get install ktorrent

GENERAL NOTES:
Very nice bittorrent client

ALTERNATIVES: Transmission, Vuze (ex Azureus), rtorrent (very light terminal based client ideal for home file servers)



APPLICATION NAME: FileZilla
INSTALL:
sudo apt-get install filezilla

GENERAL NOTES:
FTP client to access your websites or other FTP servers

ALTERNATIVES: gFTP



APPLICATION NAME: pidgin
INSTALL:
sudo apt-get install pidgin

GENERAL NOTES:
Connect easily to MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ and other chat networks all at once.

ALTERNATIVES: empathy
